Mallory Park Round 1 Review

In the Pirelli Formula 600 race, it was time to see if any new potential Champions had been born, but despite some hope and promise from one or two riders, May returned with a bang and won the opening ‘Superpole’ race in style ahead of a talented Michael Price and Paul Charman who knows only too well what Gary can do.

Trick bits racing’s John  Simpson ended day one in fourth and #33 Tom Meehan on the bright orange machine, grabbed a well earned fifth.

Day two looked like it may spring a surprise as May was pushed all the way by a fresh Michael Price and he can be proud of his efforts after finishing just seven tenths behind Gary across the line. Less than a second behind the pair was Paul Charman again, and even though the result was the same as Saturday, May was being stretched.

Mike Edwards #81 on his pink R6 gave chase too, finishing just ahead of Wayne Sutton and Darryl Cox who are both also now aware of the pace the front.

The final race of the day was hyped up to be a cracker, with Gary May having been pushed all the way earlier, you wondered whether an upset was on the cards….. having said that, you didn’t wonder for too long as Mr May’s master class lesson was performed at just the right time and he blitzed the field to take three out of three in the Pirelli 600 Championship.

Second again was Michael Price whose trophy cabinet will need to be enlarged after an extremely successful round one, the fact he’s only 15 points behind May will install him with confidence too going into Cadwell.

Paul Charman can take hope too, a good Cadwell Park runner, Paul will look to spoil May’s plan of action for sure in round two.

With John Simpson and James Henry rounding up the top five, there is certainly a field of talent out there, it just needs to blossom a little quicker if anybody is to stop Gary May from retaining his title.
